We have had a wonderfully exciting week at school this week with all of learning for World Book Day. Gemma Barder, our visiting author gave a superb talk to the children about her life as an author. The children then asked her some fantastic questions. We were very proud of them. In the afternoon, we had a lovely celebration assembly where all year groups shared their non-fiction work. Two of our children read their advice to Miss Ward and Mr Morris to help them choose a new puppy should either of them want one in the future!

In maths, we will be revising how to add and subtract within 100. We will be thinking about the inverse which encourages children to think about the relationship between addition and subtraction e.g. 3 + 4 = 7 so 7 – 4 = 3.

In topic, we will be learning about Northern Ireland and this will round off our learning about the United Kingdom. As a celebration of our United Kingdom topic and to further teach children about the traditional foods found in each of the four countries we will be sampling a range of different foods, for example, Welsh cakes for Wales and shortbread for Scotland.

In English, we will be reading a book based on our topic this week which is Northern Ireland. The book we will be reading, Finn McColl, is a tale about two giants Finn and Angus and their battle across the sea which supposedly creates the Giants Causeway.

The week after next, we will be finishing our tour of Great Britain in our geography work. We will be doing a food tasting session during this week of some of the most famous foods for each country. We have a list of children with food intolerances and allergies but if you need to update us or let us know of any potential issues, please contact us via the school office.

Please ensure that your child knows when they need to change their reading book. Any additional phonics practise that you can do at home would be really beneficial.
