This week the children have learned to segment and blend with the spellings/graphemes ‘oi’ and ‘ow’ and learned the tricky word ‘do’. Next week we will teach ‘ur’ and ‘er’ and the word ‘her’.

Please continue with letter formation practice at home along with revisiting the sounds sh, ch, th, ng, qu, ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, oi and ow.

Today we have put sheets of sound flashcards in book bags. We hope that you and your child will be able to cut them out to make separate flashcards and use them to link the sound to the spelling. Help your child to be able to say the sound when shown the spelling and also to find the spelling after hearing the sound. Please keep these at home.

This week, the children have explored the number 18, found one less and explored addition strategies. Next week we will focus on the number 19 and explore capacity.

Please continue with recognising, ordering and writing numbers to 20 at home.

In Literacy, we have read the book ‘Sea Animals’. The children have been working on extending their sentences when writing.

Next week, we will look at the book ‘Pirates Love Underpants’.

During activity time, the children have completed a guided read, started to add colour and texture to their sea creature salt dough models, finished sharing their half term homework and focussed on developing their imaginative play.

Thank you for the junk modelling materials, please continue to send these in.

We have decided to move the day we change library books from a Monday to a Thursday. This is because we have a new student starting who will be able to complete this for us. The routine for changing reading books will remain the same.

Reading books – Tuesday and Friday

Library book – Thursday

Thank you to the families of the ladybirds groups for choosing a book for ‘Book and Tell’. Next week, it will be the Bees group.
