Geography

All pupils will have an in-depth understanding and knowledge about the world we live in. They will be inspired to be curious and have a fascination with the world and people within it. Children will have a serious interest and profound understanding of diverse places, people, resources, and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

Our geography curriculum has been tailored from the national curriculum to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

Pupils are taught about different areas of geography:

  • Locational knowledge
  • Place knowledge
  • Human and physical geography
  • Geographical skills and fieldwork

Our ambition is for children to learn to ask questions about the how and why in Geography, marvelling at the world around them and the way it operates and changes.  We are planning our curriculum to teach geographical facts and skills, but our pupils also need to understand that their lessons are not a one-off: they are part of a big picture of learning about the world.  In time we will be introducing Geographical Big Ideas. These are key geographical concepts that the children will revisit again and again, providing a progression of understanding against each concept.

Our Geography curriculum will include the seven Big Ideas:

  • Place
  • Space
  • Environment
  • Inter-Connection
  • Sustainability
  • Scale
  • Change
