This week we have started our new topic looking at the continents and oceans of the world. We have located these in the atlases and looked at the large world map. The children have also labelled their own maps. We are reading stories from each continent and have started with The Three Billy Goats Gruff which originates from Norway. The children have written a detailed character description about the troll.
We have continued to work with fractions in maths and have been finding the fractions of numbers. The children have been drawing bar models as a strategy to work out 1/3, 2/3, 2/4, 3/4 of a number. We have sent an activity home today to help reinforce this learning.
Next week we will be looking at time. Telling the time to the hour and half past was introduced in Year 1 so we will be teaching the children about quarter to, quarter past as well as telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes.
We have set up the logins for children to access 'Timestable Rockstars.' This is an online learning tool that helps with the instant recall of times table facts. Children use this across KS2 and as times tables are part of our curriculum we introduce it in Year 2. Further information can be found on the website. Next Friday is our year group assembly and the children have been busy learning their lines. We will be starting at 2.40pm and it will last for approximately 15 minutes. We are aware that some children have a dance show on that day, so if you need to pick up your child early then please arrange this with the office.
