Meadowdale Primary School

Catchment Change Consultation

Meadowdale Primary School is seeking your views on the changes proposed below.  Our consultation will run for 6 weeks from 28th November 2022 to 10th January 2023. The determined admissions arrangements must then be ratified by the trust/governors by 28th February and published on the website by 15th March.

This policy will operate for entry September 2024.  It will also apply to all mid-term admissions for the school year 2024/25 and for subsequent years until further notice.

Admissions Arrangements:

Meadowdale is seeking to extend its catchment area between Kettering Road and Braybrooke Road. This will include the new Davidsons Development currently being built. This area in part currently forms part of the Little Bowden School Catchment area.

What is a catchment area?

A school’s catchment area is only used to determine the order in which places are allocated if the school is over-subscribed, with children in the catchment being given higher priority. Parents can choose to send their child to any school that has places available whether or not they live in the catchment area.

Why are we proposing this change?

Davidson Homes is planning to build over 300 new homes on land off Kettering Road which currently forms part of Little Bowden Primary School’s catchment area. The development currently includes plans for a new school, but interim arrangements will be needed to provide school places for children moving into the development until this school is built. We are proposing that Meadowdale’s catchment area will overlap with Little Bowden Primary School’s catchment area so that parents in the extended area have a choice of both schools.

Meadowdale is the nearest school to the new homes and has capacity in most year groups to accommodate children moving into the area. Based on birth numbers within our current catchment area we believe that we will continue to have additional capacity to accommodate children from the new development for at least the next 5 years without impacting on the availability of places for children within our current catchment area.

Meadowdale’s Pupil Admission Number (PAN)

Meadowdale’s PAN will remain at the current level of 420. Our admission numbers for the last 5 years have been below our agreed PAN. We therefore believe that any increased demand for places will be met through vacant places.
